Problem

Our team was tasked with designing and building an electric skateboard that could reach a top speed of 50 mph and have a battery life of at least 2 hours. We faced several challenges in achieving these goals, including planning the electrical components, designing the power transmission system with only one motor, and creating our own battery.

One major issue we encountered was finding a way to transmit power from the motor to the wheel efficiently. We initially tried using gears but found that they were too noisy and didn't provide enough torque. We also had trouble finding a battery that could last long enough while still being lightweight enough for use on a skateboard.

Solution

To solve the problem of power transmission, we decided to use a belt drive system. This allowed us to transfer power from the motor to the wheel smoothly and quietly while also providing enough torque for acceleration. For the battery, we ended up creating our own custom lithium-ion pack using high-quality cells.

We also designed our own 3D printed wheel to ensure it was strong enough to handle speeds up to 50 mph. To make sure everything worked together seamlessly, we carefully planned out all of the electrical components and made sure they were compatible with each other before assembling them onto the board.
