Problem

Social Buzz, a social media platform with over 500 million active users each month, needed external expertise to manage and maintain their highly complex technology. They required an audit of their big data practice, recommendations for a successful IPO, and an analysis of their content categories that highlighted the top five categories with the largest aggregate popularity. The amount of data they created was huge, and it was highly unstructured, requiring sophisticated and expensive technology to manage and maintain. They did not have the resources internally to handle this scale. As a Data Analyst at Accenture working on this project, our team faced several challenges. We had to identify which datasets were required to answer our business question - figuring out the top five categories with the largest popularity - from seven different data sets containing different columns and values. We also had to clean the data by removing rows with missing values, changing data types within columns, and removing irrelevant columns. Finally, we had to merge three tables together to create a final dataset and figure out the top five performing categories using the "Sum If" formula.

Solution

Our team at Accenture provided Social Buzz with an audit of their big data practice, recommendations for a successful IPO, and an analysis of their content categories that highlighted the top five categories with the largest aggregate popularity. We identified Reaction, Content, and Reaction Types as relevant datasets for our analysis. We cleaned these datasets by removing rows with missing values or irrelevant columns while changing data types within columns where necessary. Our team merged these three tables together using VLookUp formulas to create a final dataset before using Sum If formulas to figure out the top five performing categories.
