Project

Our project aimed to design a mechanical watch; the components included the mainspring, dial, hands, movement, crown, crystal, bezel, caseback, lug, strap/bracelet, buckle/clasp, case, escapement mechanism, balance wheel and balance spring (hairspring), gear train, and jewels.

We knew this project would showcase the inner workings of the movement of the watch, explore the intricacies of components, and illustrate the intersection of horology and engineering. Our group was especially interested in this idea because the visual complexity while working with smaller parts fascinated us!

I was in charge of most of the CAD work, creating 100+ intricate pieces of the interior and exterior parts of the Rolex watch using Creo Parametric. Due to my previous internship experience involving the use of Creo, I felt the strongest when it came to the CAD software so I had no problem taking the lead in creating the parts.

I also had a hand in the animation aspect, where all 3 engineers in my team (including myself) managed to display what we had in mind.
