From Fan to Fatigue

(A Couch Confession)

I was once a temporary fan of Arjun Kapoor—back in the days when he made his Bollywood debut. Unlike most of my friends, I genuinely believed he had the charm, grit, and screen presence to be a quintessential Bollywood hero. Films like 2 States, Half Girlfriend, Tevar, and even Lutere felt like stepping stones toward something promising.

But that belief didn’t age well…

One film after another, my optimism quietly packed its bags and left. It wasn't personal—I was just rooting for potential that never quite showed up. Eventually, I made a silent vow: no more Arjun Kapoor films. It became my personal movie taboo.

Yet recently, out of sheer boredom and a heavy dose of couch-laziness, I gave Mere Husband Ki Biwi a chance.

And here’s my brutally honest review with no filters attached:

Mere Husband Ki Biwi – A Comedy That Misses the Mark

The storyline had promise—a man caught between his ex-wife and current fiancée, thanks to an accident-induced amnesia. Sounds like a decent setup for a chaotic rom-com, right? Well, only on paper.

Arjun Kapoor as Ankur

He plays a man whose memory loss causes emotional havoc between his ex-wife, Prabhleen (Bhumi Pednekar), and his fiancée, Meher (Rakul Preet Singh). But from the get-go, Kapoor’s performance felt... lazy. The overly highlighted eyebrows, stooping shoulders, and forced long hairstyle seemed more like a parody than a character. He’s not inherently a bad actor, but this one looked like he walked onto the set unprepared. The casual delivery, awkward expressions, and lack of conviction made it hard to root for him—or the film.

Dialogues and Humor

Moments that were meant to make the audience laugh often ended up feeling cringey. Case in point—shouting "Jai Mata Di!" before paragliding. I mean, really? It was neither situationally funny nor naturally placed—it just screamed trying too hard.

The Female Leads

Bhumi Pednekar and Rakul Preet tried to bring some energy into the film. While Bhumi’s comic timing was decent in parts, Rakul’s performance was mostly lost in the messy writing. Neither had much material to work with, which is a shame considering their talent.

Music and Screenplay

The songs felt like fillers—popping up for no reason, adding no emotional or narrative weight to the film. The screenplay was disjointed, with scenes that lacked flow and jokes that felt recycled. By the second half, I was just waiting for it to end.

Final Thoughts

Mere Husband Ki Biwi could have been a fun, lighthearted film. But what we got instead was a half-baked rom-com with cardboard characters and outdated humor. It’s one of those films where even boredom and popcorn can’t justify the runtime.

Would I recommend it? Only if you’re too lazy to reach for the remote—and even then, proceed with caution…
