Background
Showspace is a portfolio-builder tool that enables users to showcase their work online. The platform has been popular among full time employees and freelancers who want to display their accomplishments in a way that helps advance their careers.
However, the platform lacked some essential features for some project types and professions.
Problem
One of the main issues with Showspace was the limited media support.
Users were only able to upload photos to their projects, but the photos couldn't be enlarged. For images where seeing details is important, this was often a dealbreaker to not have this feature.
Additionally, visitors had no option upload videos related to their projects. Again, this was a dealbreaker to not have for many projects, and caused some projects to feel lacking in content.
Solution
To solve these issues, we introduced both features
Video embedding
Photo enlargement
Video Embedding
Users can now include videos from YouTube directly into their projects. For visual creative professionals, this allows them to use the platform.

Then for users where video isn't the core of their work, this enables them to provide more context or show behind-the-scenes footage of how they created it.
Photo Enlargement
Now when visitors click on an image in a project, they can view it in full size with a black background to optimize focus and contrast.
This makes it easier for users to showcase details of their work and helps visitors appreciate the quality of the project better.
