The story behind our Citizens Advice energy-saving video

Background

I was part of the Citizens Advice SORT Group, and we had to quickly create a YouTube video with energy-saving tips. We had limited resources and time constraints, so we had to come up with a solution that would be informative and engaging for viewers.

Problem

Our team needed to create a video that would meet the national guidelines and advice provided by Citizens Advice while also being visually appealing and engaging for viewers. We had a limited timeframe, which made it challenging to create a high-quality video within the given constraints.

Solution

To create the video, I worked with Hayley Wright to develop a script based on Citizens Advice national guidelines and advice. We transcribed the script into short, snappy tips and recorded Hayley presenting the video which was edited using Adobe After Effects. We used in-house branded images and custom assets produced in Canva and Photoshop to create slides for the video. We also created subtitles and other accessibility assets before posting the video on YouTube.

I collaborated with Hayley Wright to create a script that was informative while sticking to brand and tone of voice guidelines.

I then transcribed the script into panels made with Canva and Photoshop, adding official and custom illustrations.


I edited the panels, video and audio together in After Effects. Added subtitles and scheduled the video to be posted on the official Citizens Advice SORT Youtube channel.

Impact

Our video received over 1000 views within the first month of posting and increased engagement on all social media channels. We received positive feedback from viewers who found the tips helpful. The video also helped to increase awareness of energy-saving practices among viewers and led to potential cost savings for those who implemented the tips.
