Accessible Church Toilet Block Design

Background

The church had been in need of a wheelchair accessible toilet for some time. The existing facilities were not suitable for those with mobility issues, and the church wanted to ensure that all members of the congregation could access the facilities comfortably.

Our team was approached to design and construct a new toilet block that would be fully accessible and meet all necessary regulations.

Problem

The main challenge we faced was designing a toilet block that would be fully accessible while also fitting within the limited space available. We needed to ensure that there was enough room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre comfortably, while also providing all necessary fixtures and fittings.

In addition, we needed to ensure that the new facilities would blend in with the existing architecture of the church and not detract from its appearance.

Solution

We worked closely with the church committee to understand their requirements and constraints. After several design iterations, we settled on a layout that maximised the available space while still providing all necessary features.

The new toilet block includes wider doors, grab rails, an emergency alarm system, and an adjustable-height sink. We also installed non-slip flooring and ensured that there was adequate lighting throughout.

To ensure that the new facilities blended in with the existing architecture of the church, we used materials that matched those already present. We also designed the exterior of the building to complement the style of the church.
