Problem

Our client was experiencing a significant amount of bot traffic on their website, which was causing issues with site performance and security. They were also concerned about the financial risk associated with online fraud and credential abuse. The client needed a solution that could accurately identify and block malicious bot traffic while still allowing legitimate users to access the site. To address these concerns, our team developed the Azion Bot Protection BETA solution. This edge function running on Edge Firewall analyzes each request and assigns it a score based on a set of rules and behaviors. If the score exceeds a limit defined by the customer, the function takes action to deny or drop the request.

Solution

Our team developed an edge function running on Edge Firewall that uses a set of rules and behaviors to analyze each incoming request to our client's website. The function assigns each request a score based on its characteristics, such as IP reputation, previous content extraction activity, and browser behavior. If the score exceeds a limit defined by the customer, the function takes action to deny or drop the request. This helps protect our client's website from malicious bot traffic while still allowing legitimate users to access it. In addition to blocking bad traffic, our solution also provides visibility into bot traffic characteristics through custom rule management, SIEM integration, JSON export of logs to HTTP endpoint, and Reputation Intelligence. This allows our client to measure the amount and characteristics of bot traffic trying to access their website.
