Problem

The Tree of Life Synagogue massacre in 2018 was a tragic event that shook the Pittsburgh community to its core. The local playground, just a block away from the synagogue, has been targeted with anti-Semitic propaganda. We suspect that this is the work of a known white supremacist who has been in and out of prison for most of his life. Despite ongoing efforts to combat hate crimes in Pittsburgh, white supremacist activity remains prevalent.

Our team recognized the need for a solution to address this issue and prevent future hate crimes from occurring in our community.

Solution

We developed an app called "HateWatch" that allows users to report incidents of hate crimes or suspicious activity in their communities. The app uses geolocation technology to pinpoint the location of the incident and sends an alert to law enforcement agencies in real-time.

In addition, we partnered with local organizations and community leaders to promote awareness about hate crimes and provide resources for victims. Our team also worked closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure that they had access to all necessary information regarding reported incidents.
