Script 1 - NAYE NEIGHBOURS

Scene 1

Int. Provident home – Sai’s home.

Sai, a 10-year-old impish boy, runs out of his room in pajamas. He has just woken up. His parents are making Diwali preparations. He looks at some ladoos, gifts, etc kept on the table. He goes there to find crackers.

Sai: Papaaaaa, crackers?

Sai’s Dad (sighing): Iss Saal Naye neighbours so No crackers.

Sai’s face falls. He looks confused but decides not to ask more.

Scene 2

This scene is a montage of interesting visuals. It begins with Rohan hanging upside down from on a monkey bar in a garden with a young girl standing on the side.

Rohan, sadly: Naye neighbours. No crackers.

Scene 3

Cut to Rohan and his swimming instructor sitting on the edge of the pool.

Rohan, sadly: Naye neighbours. No crackers.

Rohan then jumps into the pool.

Scene 4

Cut to Rohan playing cricket.

Rohan, muttering angrily as he runs towards the batsman before throwing the ball: Naye neighbours. No crackers.

He throws the ball with full aggression and it bounces off the helmet the batsman is wearing.

Scene 5
Int. Provident home lift.

Sai enters the lift. An uncle is there already. He is a happy-go-lucky man with slight tension on his face.

Uncle: Arre Sai, Happy Diwali... But this year no badmaashi...

Sai’s face drops again, and he replies...

Sai (mumbles): Kaise hogi badmaashi... Naye neighbours jo aye hai..

Scene 3

Int. Provident home living room – Rohan’s house.

We see Rohan sitting by the window and the bell rings. Rohan is wearing a smart Diwali kurta but is visibly sad. Rohan’s Dad calls out.

Rohan’s Dad: Rohan beta, aa jao. New neighbours are here.

The living room is decked up beautifully with lights, garlands, etc. Rohan makes a face and steps out of his room. Rohan is upset, looking down at the ground. He looks up slowly, and his face lights up excitedly as soon as he does. They all come forward and the camera pans to show that the naye neighbours are 2 puppies. Rohan’s parents stand happily near the door as they see the kids hold and play with the puppies. One of the puppies is walking around the kids’ ankles excitedly, one is climbing over a kid who is lying on the floor. Rohan is holding another one in his hands and he has a wide smile on his face. He looks at his parents and they smile back happily as they see him enjoy his Diwali.
