Problem

Our team was tasked with creating a Reddit clone app that could handle large amounts of traffic and user data. We needed to ensure that the app was scalable, secure, and reliable. Additionally, we had to deploy the app on AWS cloud services while keeping costs low.

One of the biggest challenges we faced was figuring out how to manage the high volume of user-generated content and interactions while maintaining fast load times and minimizing downtime. We also had to consider how to implement security measures such as encryption, access control, and monitoring.

Solution

To address these challenges, we decided to use a microservices architecture with Docker containers running on Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS). This allowed us to easily scale up or down depending on traffic levels and minimize downtime during updates or maintenance.

We also implemented various security measures such as SSL encryption for data in transit, AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) for access control, and AWS CloudWatch for monitoring. Additionally, we used Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for database management which provided automatic backups and failover capabilities.
