My Experimental Sound piece

Problem

In my sound design portfolio, there's a captivating section born from curiosity and creativity. I embarked on a journey into sound manipulation, aiming to craft an experimental musical piece that defied norms. This was my own idea, of jumping into a project and 'going with the flow.'

This path presented challenges that were both intriguing and puzzling. Identifying the piece's starting point and endpoint, as well as its essence, became my main goal. I also grappled with creating seamless transitions between different audio elements.

Solution

Luckily, I found a solution through strategic sound modulation. I began by manipulating sounds using a combination of subtraction and multiplication, intertwining various layers of sound with a wide range of different sounds. The key was making sure each sound could interact and blend harmoniously, resulting in an intricate tapestry of melodies and rhythms.

The most important thing for this project was to make sure that the sounds I use can create a smooth and non destructive transition between one another, keeping the flow harmoniously intact.

Impact

  • This experiment with sound had a powerful effect, sparking a surge of untamed creativity. I thoroughly enjoyed the wide-open audio canvas that existed outside the usual boundaries. Each passing second felt like a brushstroke; every change in tempo uncovered something new; and with each shift, the composition transformed into a complex auditory mosaic. This is were my creativity could move freely and do whatever it wanted to.

"I had an incredible time without any limits; it was like having a blank canvas and freely sketching whatever I wanted."
