The Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha is known for its high susceptibility to multiple hazards from river flooding, coastal flooding, and cyclonic impacts. The lack of a proper flood information system made it difficult for the authorities to manage the situation efficiently. This led to loss of life and property damage during floods.

We understood that there was a need for a first-of-its-kind web-based flood information system that could facilitate efficient Flood Risk Management over the Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha.

Solution

Our team developed a web-based flood information system using Python, Django, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and AJAX. We designed the layout and architecture of the web-based system to be easily accessible by any end-user irrespective of any technical know-how.

The system provides real-time updates on water levels in rivers and reservoirs, rainfall data, and weather forecasts. It also has features like early warning systems, evacuation plans, and emergency contact details. The user-friendly interface makes it easy for users to access all the necessary information at one place.
