Writing Sample- Dissertation

When women are diagnosed with breast cancer, they often turn to social media for self-education and emotional support. However, the vast amount of information available online can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate. Additionally, not all information found on social media is accurate or reliable. This can lead to confusion and potentially harmful decisions regarding treatment options.

This qualitative study is about the experience of women who have used social media as a tool to self-direct their learning about their breast cancer diagnosis. The literature reveals that people use social media for self-education, emotional support, and assistance with diagnosis’ when faced with a health care issue or crisis, and that motivation plays a large role in why they use social media.
