Problem

ShowMeHow is a prototype of an app that aims to connect fully online students with local experts to learn hands-on skills that are otherwise lacking in a fully online experience. The problem is that there is a lack of onsite experiential learning in fully online, skills-based education. This means that students miss out on the opportunity to gain practical knowledge and experience, which can affect their post-graduation job placement. Additionally, there is a lack of connection to the community in fully online skills-based education.

This lack of connection can further hinder job placement opportunities for students as they may not have access to networking or internship opportunities. These problems highlight the need for a solution that provides students with hands-on learning experiences and connects them with experts in their field.

Solution

ShowMeHow offers several potential solutions to address the problems faced by fully online students. Firstly, it provides more externships/internships throughout the student’s program of study, allowing them to gain practical experience and build connections within their field. Secondly, it offers more video instruction and live feedback, providing students with interactive learning experiences even when they cannot be physically present.

Thirdly, tutoring sessions are available online through ShowMeHow's platform. Fourthly, career services intervention is expanded to local businesses throughout the student’s program. Finally, community outreach via technology pairs experts with students for onsite tutoring sessions.
