Problem

The traditional text-based format of online education can be boring and disengaging for students. This can lead to a lack of participation and poor learning outcomes. Our team faced this problem when tasked with creating an ethics debate module for an online course.

We needed to find a way to make the module interactive and engaging, while still achieving the learning objectives set out by the course.

Solution

Our team decided to create an interactive ethics debate in Articulate Storyline. Students could choose their position in the debate, and the results of their choices were linked up to the LMS so they could see who was choosing what position.

After the debate, students followed up with rationale in the discussion board, and were graded on their participation using a rubric. This approach not only made the module more engaging but also allowed us to achieve our learning objectives.
