Problem

On Running, a Swiss-based running shoe company, approached our team with the challenge of creating a fully circular pair of shoes. They wanted to reduce their environmental impact by eliminating waste and creating a sustainable product. However, they also wanted to maintain the high-quality standards that their customers expect.

Our team recognized that this was no easy feat. We needed to find materials that were both durable and environmentally friendly. Additionally, we had to ensure that the shoes would be comfortable and functional for runners of all levels.

Solution

We began by researching different materials that could be used in the shoe's design. After much experimentation, we settled on using TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) for both the upper and outsole of the shoe. This material is not only durable but also recyclable.

In order to ensure comfort and functionality, we worked closely with On Running's design team to create a unique sole structure that would provide support while still allowing for flexibility. We also incorporated breathable mesh into the shoe's design to keep feet cool during long runs.
