Background

Showspace.so is where you can create a free portfolio with the help of AI. Our AI was the Davinci 003 model from OpenAI.

Problem

Users were complaining about inaccurate content being generated by our AI after they shared initial information about their projects. The placeholders used in the templates also often showed fake metrics.

Finally, it took about 60 seconds to generate a template which was causing some users to leave the site temporarily.

Solution

When OpenAI released the ChatGPT Turbo API, which was considered a "GPT 3.5 model", we upgraded all three of our AI features same-day:

Draft project template generation
Short description generation
Title generation

Impact

Project draft generation time decreased by roughly 2x to an average of 25 seconds, down from ~60 seconds
Response quality improved substantially
The "Team" sections were upgraded to include more contextually relevant examples, including more diverse names
