Problem

Mayo and the Nacho Nyuk Dun First Nation's community lacked a space where they could come together to share stories and connect with each other. They wanted an outdoor storytelling space that would be accessible to everyone in the community.

However, designing such a space was challenging as it needed to be culturally appropriate, environmentally sustainable, and cost-effective. The team had to work within a limited budget while ensuring that the space would meet the needs of the community.

Solution

The team worked closely with members of the Mayo and Nacho Nyuk Dun First Nation's community to design an outdoor storytelling space that would meet their needs. We used sustainable materials like reclaimed wood and incorporated traditional elements like a fire pit into the design.

The storytelling space was designed to be accessible to everyone in the community, including those with disabilities. We also included seating areas for people to gather and share stories, as well as lighting for nighttime events.
