Background

Our team was approached by the father of a special young cinephile named Max, who was born with Down's Syndrome. Despite the challenges facing him, Max has developed a winning personality, a deep love of music and film, and an impressive dance repertoire. His doting father decided to build him his own Movie Room, but due to his condition, it was not possible for him to be the MC. Our team saw this as an opportunity to make his dream come true through animation.

Problem

The biggest challenge we faced was creating an animated version of our client that accurately represented him while also being entertaining and engaging for the audience. Additionally, we were tasked with developing a theater brand that felt authentic while reflecting Max's dynamic and colorful personality.

Solution

We worked closely with our client and his family to gather information about his personality, interests, and mannerisms, which, being a few thousand miles apart, we achieved through tons of reference photography and video. Using this information, we created a model of our client and animated him as the MC of the theater. We incorporated elements from classic movie intros such as curtains opening and spotlights shining on stage. The animation was designed to be fun, upbeat, and inclusive for all audiences.

Impact

The animation received a standing ovation from the audience at its premiere.
The client's family reported that he watched the animation every day and it brought him immense joy.
The theater saw an increase in attendance after introducing the new opener.
