Problem

During my first year in architecture school, I was tasked with investigating the power of fabric. The challenge was to explore the use of fabric and the application of tension as a means of creating a canopy that provided a unique and dynamic spatial experience.

However, we faced several problems during the project. Firstly, we had limited knowledge about fabrics and their properties. Secondly, we were unsure about how to create tension within the fabric without damaging it. Lastly, we had to ensure that our design would be structurally sound and able to withstand different weather conditions.

Solution

To address these challenges, we conducted extensive research on different types of fabrics and their properties. We also consulted with experts in textile engineering to understand how tension could be applied without causing damage.

We then created several prototypes using different fabrics and tested them under various weather conditions. Through trial and error, we were able to refine our design until it was both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound.
