Problem

The project faced the challenge of designing and building two robots, The goal was to create efficient mechanisms that could navigate the competition's arena, pick and throw rings accurately, and execute complex maneuvers.

Our team was tasked with designing and manufacturing two semi-automatic robots, Elephant Robot (ER) and Rabbit Robot (RR), each with specific tasks such as ring picking, throwing, and climbing to participate in the ABU Robocon 2023 Asia-Pacific Robot Contest. We faced several challenges during the project, including managing a large team of 40 individuals from different departments, handling sponsorships, implementing guidelines, and managing financial activities. Additionally, we had to ensure that the robots were designed and manufactured to meet all required specifications while also performing well in the competition.

One major challenge we faced was ensuring that the robots were able to perform all required calculations and Ansys FEA simulations like gear simulation for the mechanisms.

Solution

To overcome these challenges, we implemented a rigorous project management process that involved regular communication and collaboration among team members. We also established clear guidelines for each department's responsibilities and ensured that everyone understood their roles.

We used advanced software tools such as Ansys FEA simulations to design and test the robots' mechanisms before manufacturing them. This helped us identify any potential issues early on in the process, allowing us to make necessary adjustments quickly. Result

Achieved a perfect score of 100/100 in ABU Robocon 2023 stage-I by designing and performing all required calculations and Ansys FEA simulations like gear simulation for the mechanisms.
Achieved a total score of 70/100 in manufacturing stage II and finally got an AIR-21 rank in stage III final stage ABU Robocon 2023.

Impact

The VIIT Robotic Club was established in 2007 and had its downfall during the COVID-19 pandemic was fully restored. During my tenure as a President.
Different organizations started to connect with us we received a 3 MOU invitation within a month.
The club which struggled to find funds now has more than 2 sources of funding.
Received a collaboration with Rigbeetal Labs who agreed to sponsor us with all the electronic components required to build the bot.

Robots Achieve Perfect Score in ABU Robocon 2022-23
