❌ Problem

I was designing a lesson plan for an American Football Live Learning Event that would be hosted by the Games Learning and AI (GLAI) club as part of Harvard’s Fall Fest 2023. The goal was to create a personalized learning experience for beginners, drawing connections to other fields of interest and knowledge. We needed to find a way to support students in grasping the basic rules and vocabulary of American Football, enabling them to watch, understand, and discuss the game as it unfolds, with minimal pre-event preparation. I realized that creating personalized content for each learner would be time-consuming and challenging. Additionally, I needed to ensure that learners could ask questions in real-time while watching the game without feeling overwhelmed or lost - which seems impossible considering the large number of guests and the limited number of event hosts.

🎯 Solution

To address these challenges, I decided to use chatGPT (4.0) as our tool for designing the lesson plan. I created a brief survey for learners to fill out around their interests and reasons for learning football and what knowledge they bring. Based on their responses, I created personalized info content and set up a chatbot experience for each learner. During the event, learners explored their individual info content (videos and slides) one hour before the game started. We anticipated watching the first quarter together using the chatbot experience designed here. Afterward, users could ask the chatbot for a personalized learning summary and debriefed their learning experience together. Watching the following quarters were optional. Our main activities included watching and exploring personalized info content for a basic idea of the game concept; using custom chatGPT prompts to ask further questions and build understanding while watching the game in real-time.
