As the Remote Supply Chain Manager, we faced several challenges in managing inventory and sourcing suppliers. One of the biggest challenges was ensuring consistency in the cosmetics bulk material as any change in product formula could have a negative impact on our business. Additionally, with the US-China trade war escalating, we had to find new suppliers from Taiwan which posed a challenge in terms of procurement cycle and building relationships.

To address these challenges, we needed to adopt new tactics that would ensure consistency in our products while also finding reliable suppliers who could provide better value for our business.

Solution

To address the challenge of consistency in cosmetics bulk material, we adopted single sourcing purchasing. This ensured that there were no changes in product formula and helped us maintain quality standards. For components and packing material, we adopted a standard procurement cycle with selected Chinese suppliers until the US-China trade war escalated.

When we had to source new suppliers from Taiwan, we built strong relationships with them to ensure better value for our business and get support when needed. By adopting these tactics, we were able to overcome the challenges faced by our supply chain management team and ensure smooth operations.
