Problem
Electric vehicles (EVs) consume a considerable amount of power in idle mode, which can lead to decreased battery life and range. Additionally, the assembly process for HV contactor coils can be time-consuming and require multiple subassemblies. These issues can increase costs and decrease efficiency for EV manufacturers.
Our team was tasked with developing a solution that would reduce power consumption in idle mode and simplify the assembly process for HV contactor coils.
Solution
We developed a micro-independent HV contactor coil Economizer that reduced EV power consumption in idle mode by approximately 70%. The Economizer was designed to be compact and easy to install, reducing assembly time and subassembly count from three to one. Additionally, we included a pre-charge circuit.
Impact
Reduced EV power consumption in idle mode by approximately 70%
