Problem

Our team was tasked with investigating the perception of female Saudi youth between the ages of 18 to 25 towards having a child with Down Syndrome. We found that there was a lack of understanding and knowledge about Down Syndrome among the participants, which led to negative perceptions towards having a child with the condition.

We also discovered that there were cultural stigmas associated with having a child with Down Syndrome, which further contributed to the negative attitudes towards it. Additionally, we found that many participants were not aware of their options when it came to prenatal testing and abortion.

Solution

To address these issues, we developed an educational campaign aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of Down Syndrome among young women in Saudi Arabia. The campaign included informational materials such as brochures and videos, as well as workshops and seminars held in various locations throughout the country.

We also worked closely with healthcare providers to ensure that accurate information about prenatal testing and abortion was available to all participants. In addition, we partnered with local organizations to help reduce cultural stigmas associated with Down Syndrome and promote acceptance and inclusion of individuals with the condition.
