Learning a new language can be challenging, and memorizing vocabulary words is often the most difficult part. Students studying for the TOEFL exam need to learn thousands of new words, which can be overwhelming. Many students struggle to stay motivated and engaged while studying alone.

Our team was approached with the challenge of creating an AI assistant that could help students learn TOEFL vocabularies in a fun and interactive way. The assistant needed to be able to ask questions, provide hints, and track progress over time.

Solution

We developed an AI assistant that engages students in a conversation-style learning experience. The assistant asks students what initial they want to review and then gives them one vocabulary word at a time. After giving a TOEFL vocabulary, the assistant asks the student what it means in Chinese. If the student gives the wrong answer, the assistant provides a hint before asking again. Students have three chances to answer each question correctly before moving on to the next word.

The AI assistant tracks progress over time and adjusts its questions based on each student's strengths and weaknesses. This personalized approach keeps students engaged and motivated as they work towards their language learning goals.
