TLDR

As the fourth US team member at Breather, I identified a demand for longer-term, high-value bookings from corporate clients. Through data analysis, UX research, and client engagement, I developed Breather for Business—a client portal for company-wide accounts with features like user management and corporate billing. The initiative generated $40M annually, representing 75% of company revenue, and attracted major clients like Google, Apple, and Uber, transforming Breather into a global leader in on-demand workspace solutions.

Problem

As the fourth US team member at Breather, a real estate startup offering on-demand meeting rooms and workspaces, I joined the team to work on product strategy to grow users and revenue. The company had successfully launched a B2C product with its mobile app but was struggling to get high revenue bookings from users due to short-term, infrequent bookings.

Solution

I dug into the data and recoengized that the majority of our early adopters were booking using personal or school emails addresses. These bookings typically lasted 30 minutes to an hour and were not regular. However, I did notice that there were several repeat bookings lasting for several hours to a full day in some of our spaces all coming from company email addresses. Therefore, I reached out to these users to conduxt UX reaserch to better understand why they were using our Breather spaces, determing many were Office Managers at high-growth companies needing additional meeting rooms spaces and training rooms for new hires.

I followed up with an in-person event inviting Office Managers and HR managers from the top growing companies in New York City around our spaces to get to know them while gather feedback on their office space and meeting room needs. Following the event I offered these attendees a free day in a Breather. Next, I collaborated with engineering and marketing to develop an MVP client portal for companies to sign up multiple users under the same account for billing and reporting purposes. We allowed admins to set up and manage users, book rooms on a corporate discount, and manage monthly invoices.

Impact

The pilot evolved into Breather for Business and was rolled out globally, generating over $40M annually, representing 75% of total company earnings. Notable clients included Apple, Google, Uber, GE, American Express, L'Oreal, and IBM, and partners included Blue Apron, Spotify, and Apple. Breather for Business became a go-to solution for the mobile workforce, providing on-demand spaces for meetings and team off-sites for companies worldwide.
