Summary

Reddit !Diamond Bot is a revolutionary charity donation system that operates within the Reddit social media platform. The bot was developed as a response to the need for a more impactful way for Reddit's vast user base of 1.6 billion to acknowledge valuable contributions beyond the site's built-in award system. The bot's design enables users to gift charitable donations to others, seamlessly integrating with PayPal's native charity donation workflow, which ensures secure transactions without the platform ever handling the money directly.

This innovation has transformed the way users engage with each other, making every interaction potentially meaningful beyond the digital realm. The bot has facilitated donations to various charities via the PayPal Giving Fund, demonstrating the power of community engagement and goodwill.

Upon being summoned via the !RedditDiamond command, the bot presents the user with a unique Diamond # and a link to the PayPal Giving Fund. The user can then choose a charity of their choice, make a donation (with a minimum of $1), and receive a TransactionID # via email. The user then sends this TransactionID # to the bot, which verifies the donation and awards a "+1 Reddit Diamond" to the post that initially prompted the donation.

The Reddit !Diamond Bot is part of an open-source development community. Users are encouraged to provide feedback, report bugs, and ask questions about the bot in the RedditDiamondBot subreddit. Credit is given to users who make significant contributions to the bot's development or improve a particular feature.

My Contribution

As the founder of the Reddit !Diamond bot, I built a team of volunteer developers and led ideation and feature design. I was responsible for orchestrating the product vision, shaping the features, and coordinating the efforts of a team of three volunteer developers to bring this innovative solution to life.
