Problem

Thermo Fisher's Biosciences division needed a commercial dashboard that could show Covid Avg Growth by region, Quarterly base business Growth, QTD COVID Growth, QTD Base Business Growth, Current Year(CY) Amount P$, and CY Growth % by various REGIONs. The purpose of this dashboard was to help higher leadership make data-driven decisions that would accelerate market share gain and exceed customer expectations.

Firstly, there were multiple data sources that needed to be integrated into the dashboard. Secondly, I had to ensure that the dashboard was user-friendly and easy to navigate for non-technical users. Lastly, to ensure that the dashboard was scalable and could handle large amounts of data without crashing or slowing down.

Integrated multiple data sources into the dashboard using Power BI.
Optimized queries and used incremental refreshes to ensure scalability.
Designed Scatter Chart, used Power Query Editor in Power BI to clean and transform the data. Established relationships between the different data tables to enable cross-filtering and accurate calculations.

Leveraged sharing and collaboration features to encourage interaction, allowing users to add comments, share insights, and collaborate effectively.

Solution

To address these challenges, I decided to use Power BI as our platform for creating the dashboard. Power BI allowed us to easily integrate multiple data sources into one cohesive dashboard. I also used scatter chart visuals and its drill-down features to make the dashboard more user-friendly and intuitive for non-technical users.

To ensure scalability, I optimized queries and used incremental refreshes to load only new data into the dashboard instead of reloading all data every time it was accessed. This helped reduce load times and ensured that the dashboard could handle large amounts of data without slowing down or crashing.

Calculating these metrics provided valuable insights into different aspects of the organization's performance, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. By tracking the average growth rate of COVID cases by region, organizations were able to allocate resources and support to the most affected areas. The analysis of Quarterly Base Business Growth and QTD Base Business Growth metrics helped in assessing overall performance and identifying trends for business optimization. Monitoring QTD COVID growth enabled a real-time understanding of the pandemic's impact on operations, facilitating informed decision-making.

The CY Amount P$ metric allowed organizations to track their financial performance accurately, while CY Growth % by Regions provided insights into regional variations and growth opportunities. These metrics played a pivotal role in guiding organizations to make data-driven decisions and adjust strategies to adapt to the changing circumstances. By leveraging these metrics, organizations were able to navigate the challenges posed by the pandemic effectively and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
