Background:
I helped run product strategy and development for a vertical SaaS platform in the hospitality industry. I was brought on to help launch its procurement platform for hotels, fitness studios, and co-working brands. The goal was to create a platform that would allow these partners to order products directly from our D2C brand partners to be able to offer guests. The value proposition was to provide guests with access to elevated products in spaces where they could easily scan a QR code to purchase, review, and even drop ship items directly to their address for when they returned home.
Problem:
The challenge we faced was developing a platform that could effectively allow for our D2C brands to wholesale ship to our hospitality partners while allowing our partners to procure, manage inventory, and sell products to guests. Our brand clients mostly used Shopify wholesale products but the API did not have endpoints that directly worked with our platform.
Solution:
As the product lead, I took the lead in developing the product vision and strategy for developing a custom API partnership with the Shopify team. By building a custom API with Shopify we could allow for our D2C brands to manage their wholesale inventory and hospitality clients to directly order through the Extra platform, while still allowing guests to purchase and review products.
Impact:
Successfully developed custom integration with Shopify API
Established valuable partnerships with hospitals/startups providing housing services
