Problem

Traditional banking methods require customers to visit the branch for transactions, which can be time-consuming and inconvenient. This is especially true in a country like Nigeria where bank branches are often overcrowded. Additionally, Nigerians who wanted non-interest (Islamic) banking services did not have an efficient digital platform access to ethical banking services, leaving them unbanked and vulnerable to financial exclusion. Altbank recognized this problem and sought to create a mobile banking app that would allow users to do their banking transactions from the comfort of their own homes.

However, creating such an app came with its own set of challenges. The team had to ensure that the app was secure, user-friendly, and could handle a large volume of transactions without crashing or slowing down.

Solution

As a Product Manager, I spearheaded the development of Altbank and led a cross-functional team, to build the flagship mobile banking app that enabled our customers to open accounts, transfer funds, pay bills, purchase airtime and data bundles, manage cards, and set transaction limits- amongst other personalization features—all from their smartphones. To enhance security and reliability, we implemented state-of-the-art encryption technology and collaborated with trusted payment processors. Rigorous testing, conducted in partnership with the QA team, ensured the app could handle high traffic volumes without disruptions.
